The European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS) is an association of scholars, researchers and students engaged in Japanese Studies. Founded in 1973, the general objective of the EAJS is to promote research in Japanese Studies in Europe, Japan and other regions of the world. The EAJS aims to promote the flow of information and communication in Japanese Studies through triennial international conferences in Europe and Japan, as well as through workshops and symposia.

EAJS2026, the 18th International Conference of the European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS) will be hosted in Poznań, Poland on 27-30 August 2026. The Japan Foundation is pleased to announce a Travel Support Program to assist scholars from Southeast Asia in attending the conference. 

1. Objectives 

  • To support academic career development of scholars in the field of Japanese Studies in Southeast Asia. 
  • To encourage cross-border and cross-disciplinary academic exchange. 

2. Eligibility 

  • Scholars who hold nationality in Southeast Asian countries or are affiliated with a Japanese studies institution in Southeast Asia;   
  • Scholars who have obtained Master’s degree and above, or Master’s course students hoping to enroll in doctoral course, who are engaged in Japan-related research and are eager to build networks with researchers from various countries/research fields;  
  • Scholars who can participate in the conference for the full duration, August 27 to 30, 2026. To attend the conference, scholars shall arrive in Poznań on August 26 and leave on August 31 (subject to flight schedules);    
  • Scholars who are able to communicate in English are desirable;  
  • Scholars whose presentation proposals have been accepted for the EAJS 2026 Poznań, Poland by the 2026 EAJS selections committee.    

 3. Priority 

  • Applicants who are conducting studies that bridge Southeast Asian or Asian regional studies and Japanese studies, and who contribute to the promotion of Japanese studies within ASEAN countries through cross-regional human exchange.   
  • Young scholars or those who can contribute to the development of young scholars.   
  • Applicants who do not have other sources of funding.   

 4. Support Provided 

  • Conference registration fee. 
  • Round-trip airfare (economy class). 
  • Accommodation for 5 nights (Check-in: August 26, Check-out: August 31, 2026).
