The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam also focuses on supporting Japanese language education at the elementary and secondary school levels. Japanese language experts dispatched from Japan provide training in teaching methodologies for Vietnamese teachers at these levels. These experts also engage in activities such as classroom observations, lesson plan development, and consultation sessions. The Center works in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training and local Vietnamese experts to develop and update Japanese language textbooks and supplementary materials, as part of the Japan-Vietnam “Foreign Language Project” agreement initiated by the Vietnamese government. Additionally, the Japan Foundation assigns “Japanese Language Partners”—Japanese volunteers who assist elementary and secondary school Japanese language teachers. This initiative is part of a broader cooperation agreement between the Japan Foundation, the Ministry of Education, and the provincial and city Departments of Education.
