Vietnam x Japan Dance Collaboration: Chromatic Rain
The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam is pleased to present Chromatic Rain, a dance production bringing together nine members of Japan’s KAORIalive fam (K fam) and eleven Vietnamese dancers selected through multiple rounds of auditions.
The program has two main parts:
- Chromatic Rain (Sắc Mưa) – An original K fam production consisting of two works: The Scream of Humanity, an acclaimed dance piece that received widespread praise on a Japanese television dance competition, now reimagined with all nine K fam dancers joined by four Vietnamese dancers; and Chromatic Rain, an entirely new work performed by K fam.
- Japanese – Vietnamese Dance Collaboration – A special program featuring Blue Bird, a new work choreographed by K fam and performed by all eleven Vietnamese dancers, followed by A’, bringing all twenty Japanese and Vietnamese dancers together on stage.
At the heart of Chromatic Rain is the story of a woman who has lost touch with her emotions and sense of belonging. Through memories of childhood and encounters with others, she gradually begins to rediscover the colours of life. K fam’s expressive choreography brings this emotional journey to life, exploring themes of isolation, memory and human connection.
The production is artistically supervised by KAORIalive, with Naoki serving as Devising Director, Lead Choreographer and performer.
Founded in Kyoto in 2019 by KAORIalive, K fam reached the finals of World of Dance in Los Angeles in 2019, won the OPEN Division at Chimera A-Side Dance in 2021, and appeared in the finals of Nippon TV’s THE DANCE DAY for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024. KAORIalive also won first prize at Legend Tokyo Chapter.4 in 2014.
Presented as part of the Hanoi Festival of Creative and Design 2026, Chromatic Rain marks KAORIalive’s return to Vietnam for the first time since 2015. Combining K fam’s internationally acclaimed choreography with the energy and talent of Vietnamese dancers, this special production promises an exceptional dance experience. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness Japanese and Vietnamese artists sharing the stage in Hanoi!
