As part of the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2009 events, the Japan Foundation is set to invite Professor Mitsuyoshi NUMANO, Professor of Literature at the University of Tokyo, to take lectures on Japanese literature in Hanoi, Hue, Danang and HCMC next month.
Prof. Numano will make an overview of Japanese literature from the ancient times to the 21 century, and in particular, make a quick review on a number of Japanese novelists and poets in the modern times, from Soseki Natsume to Haruki Murakami and the post-Murakami generation.
In addition, in Hanoi and HCMC, Professor Numano and some Vietnamese scholars will present a panel discussion regarding Japanese literature as well as Vietnamese literature and the world literature.
The Japan Foundation expects that this series of lecture and discussion will give a chance to get greater knowledge of Japanese literature in general as well as to introduce the uniqueness and significance of modern Japanese literature to Vietnamese researchers, critics, writers, and students, as well as general readers who have deep concern of Japanese literature. Besides, it is our hope that this academic event could foster cultural exchange in literature research and tighten the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
